Charles “Snaffles” Johnson Payne (1884 – 1967)

“Oh! To Be In England Now That April’s There”

Snaffles was one of the foremost sporting artists of his era, publishing many popular prints such as these: hunting pictures, racing scenes, and military subjects. Snaffles’ distinctive drawing style is emphasised by his ‘remarque’ – sketches in the margin – and his witty titles.
