J. Lewis (fl. 1801-1808)

Eton College from the River

Oil on canvas

41 x 62 cm

Signed lower left.

While not a prolific artist, Lewis was noted for his views of the Thames – this view of Eton College is remarkable for its depiction of the river and wider environs of the school, as well as its architecture. Two snowy swans and boater-clad boys complete the view from the other sides of the Thames.

Condition: very good.
