On 9 February 1945 the ‘Colmar Pocket’ was finally cleared of Germans – a process that had started in November 1944 – and the province of Alsace changed hands between France and Germany for the fourth time in 75 years. Happily in the succeeding 75 years Alsace has not changed ownership.
