Ludwig Lund

Born in Odense, Denmark, he showed an early aptitude for painting and drawing, being encouraged from a young age by his aunt, an artist. moved with his family to the United States in 1920. Stationed in the UK during the Second World War, he was official army illustrator for the 2nd Air Division of the US Air Force. This picture dates from the time of his being stationed in the UK – “whilst on leave he painted… in… Cambridge” and shows a canoe – popular at the time – before the Wren Bridge.

A series of his 23 wartime paintings are permanently on show in the Meeting Room of the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library in the Forum Building in Norwich. To see them click here.
