France - les vins de Bourgogne Le Clos de Vougeot Cote d'Or
Original vintage poster 61 x 40 cm An original poster depicting the Château du Clos de Vougeot vineyard in Burgundy during the grape harvest. Men and women pick the grapes outside the Château. Standing in the very heart of Burgundy's vineyards, Clos de Vougeot was originally a wine farm, built in the 12th century by monks from the nearby Abbey of Cîteaux. In the 16th century, a Renaissance style château was added to the existing buildings. Even though the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot does not produce wine anymore, it stays the symbol of a millenary of Burgundy's History. Condition: generally very good, small crease to top corner. Jeux de la Passion Oberammergau (1960)
Original vintage poster 100 x 63 cm Printed in Germany. This magnificent poster advertises the Passion Play (an outdoor play telling the Easter story) held every ten years in Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps. Tradition tells that the town was struck with plague in 1633; the townsfolk vowed that they would perform a Passion Play every ten years as a symbol of thanks to God if the plague would end, which it did. At the turn of the twentieth century, improved railways across Europe meant that people from outside the Alps could travel to see the Passion Play in Oberammergau. This poster was designed for publication in France, to encourage the French to come to see the play. Condition: generally very good; a few tiny repaired edge tears. Not backed. Original vintage poster 84 x 59 cm This poster with its highly modern logo advertises the 1960 Hanover Fair. British military authorities organised the trade fair as a bolster to Germany's post-war economy. Over 1,000 exhibitors showed a selection of items made in Germany for overseas export. Original vintage poster 100 x 63 cm Printed in Madrid for the Publications de la Direccion General del Turismo. Ortega's poster for the Spanish tourist board promotes the Romanesque art of Spain. This edition of the poster was produced for circulation in Germany. José García Ortega was born in Arroba de los Montes and was a member of the Communist Party. He worked as a painter and sculptor, studying at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. In 1953 he went to France to study art, funded by a French government scholarship. He returned to Spain throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and became a commercially successful artist. Some of his most famous designs include the posters which the Spanish tourist board commissioned from him circa 1960. Condition: generally very good; a few tiny repaired edge tears. Not backed. Original vintage poster 100 x 63 cm Bakken (short for Dyrehavsbakken) is the world's oldest amusement park, located just out of Copenhagen. This poster was designed to promote tourism to Copenhagen and Denmark more widely, and features a pierrot clown smiling above a happy crowd of Bakken visitors. Raymond Myerscough Walker (1908 - 1984)

Original vintage poster 74 x 49 cm Issued by the National Savings Committee London, the Scottish Savings Committee Edinburgh, and the Ulster Savings Committee Belfast. Printed For HM Stationery Office By Thomas Forman and Sons Ltd, Nottingham. This posters makes use of Myerscough Walker's original painting of a church bombed in the Blitz, with new buildings being constructed behind. Even in the face of war and destruction, Britain builds itself up to prosper - and, by saving, so can we. Myerscough Walker was an architectural draughtsman. He trained at Leeds School of Art and went on to the Architectural Association in London. In 1931 he won the Tite prize and was celebrated in his career for his skill as a draughtsman – as well as architect, writer, artist, sculptor and stage designer. He worked with Berhold Lubetkin, the significant modernist architect, for several years. Condition: generally very good; the odd gentle crease. Not backed. "Zero" Hans Schleger (1898 - 1976)

Original vintage poster 76 x 49 cm Hans Schleger was born in Germany. After the First World War, he studied at the Berlin Kunstgewerbeschule. After working in Berlin, he moved to New York in 1924 and began to work as a graphic designer. He returned to Berlin in 1929 and began working for the British advertising agency Crawfords, where he met Edward McKnight Kauffer, who introduced him to Jack Beddington (the head of advertising at Shell Mex BP). He moved to London following the rise of Hitler and produced a series of posters for Shell Mex. During the Second World War he worked for the British Government. He later taught at the Chicago Institute of Design and subsequently designed the trademarks of the John Lewis Partnership, Penguin, Deutsche Bank, and the Edinburgh Festival. Anna Zinkeisen (1901 - 1976)
Honourable Artillery Company: Armed Strength For Peace
Original vintage poster 75 x 51 cm ""ARMED STRENGTH FOR PEACE": Apply to The Regimental Adjutant, Armoury House, E.C.I." Anna Zinkeisen won a scholarship to the Royal Academy Schools in 1916, focusing on sculpture and exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1919. She was awarded the Landseer Award in 1920 and 1921, and went on to become an esteemed portrait artist, often of society ladies. She produced a series of posters for London Transport in the inter-war period. During the Second World War, Zinkeisen became a nurse, and was profoundly affected by the suffering she saw during her time working in St Mary’s Hospital. This is arguably the point at which she and her sister Doris reached the pinnacle of their careers, producing some of the finest and most affecting depictions of the world at war made during this period. Russian Aircraft Recognition Chart (c. 1940s - World War II era)
Original vintage poster 76 x 102 cm Published by the Ministry of Supply. Many of these aircraft would have been in use during World War II and very familiar to the Allies. A rather attractive recognition chart - in stark contrast to many similar posters which employ a less artistic approach. PE-8; TU-2; PE -2 & 3; IL-4; ER-4; A-7; YAK-3; YAK-9; IL-2; and LA-5 are the aircraft features. Condition: a few creases, otherwise generally good to very good. Original vintage poster 100 x 60 cm Printed in Great Britain by Charles & Read, Ltd for British Railways. Signed lower right in the plate. Lander's iconic deck-chair poster encourages travel to Paignton in South Devon - "the family resort of picturesque Torbay". Reginald Lander Lander trained at the Hammersmith School of Art and became chief designer at the Ralph Mott Studio, where he was also studio manager. He worked as a freelance poster designer in the 1930s and produced iconic posters for the British Transport Commission and other Government ministries, as well as various train companies. Lithograph 51 x 75 cm This fascinating and attractive map with elaborate cartouche highlights the attractions of the British Empire Exhibition, a showcase held in London to exhibit the fruits of Britain's overseas colonies. It was designed to boost support for the Empire's activities, encourage trade of imperial goods, and remind other world powers of Britain's (historic) colonial capacity. The Empire Stadium was built especially to house the exhibition; it is known today as Wembley Stadium. The exhibition was opened by King George V on St George's Day, 1924.
