Provenance: The family of A. E. Halliwell
Little is known about D Ollard other than the fact that he studied under the celebrated artist A. E. Halliwell. Halliwell is known to have collected a number of his students’ paintings and the fact that this painting was in Halliwell’s collection demonstrates that Halliwell thought highly of it. This surrealist painting conjures a dreamlike landscape where fragmented faces, silhouetted profiles, and curling ribbons orbit a maypole-like structure. Set against a stark, almost otherworldly backdrop, the piece combines collage, abstraction, and theatrical lighting to create a scene rich in mystery and symbolism. With its playful yet unsettling atmosphere, the work invites viewers into a world that defies logic and stirs the imagination.
Condition: Generally very good.
