John Piper (1903-1992)

Reims Cathedral

Ink, watercolour and gouache c. 1960

21x35cm

Inscribed ‘Reims’ lower left and signed ‘John Piper’ lower right.

Piper loved all things France, and all things Cathedral, and in this work brings the cathedral of Reims, where France’s monarchs were crowned, to life in his inimitable manner. Piper also produced an aquatint of Reims which was published in 1972.
