John Piper (1903-1992)

Capesthorne Hall (1977)

Screenprint

64 x 102 cm

Piper captures here, in his usual fanciful colours, the Cheshire stately home of Capesthorne Hall. Built in neoclassical style by William Smith and his son Francis, the hall today is used for weddings and other civil occasions.

John Piper CH was an English painter, printmaker, and designer of stained-glass windows. His work often focused on the British landscape, especially churches and monuments, and included tapestry designs, book jackets, screen-prints, photography, fabrics and ceramics.

Condition: very good; a little old discolouration to edges under mount.
