Graphis is a renowned international journal of visual communication and graphic arts, founded in 1944 in Zurich, Switzerland by Walter Herdeg and Dr. Walter Amstutz. Emerging during a period of growing international exchange in design, Graphis became a pioneering platform for showcasing excellence in graphic design, advertising, illustration, and photography across the globe.
This cover design for Graphis International Posters features a tree, though instead of leaves it has the flags of the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium and France. Instead of being rooted into the ground, the tree stands on a stylised wooden palette, the tree and the palette blending into one another as the pattern of the bark spreads across both. The tree as paintbrush and palette stand out on the page, as the bright colours of the flags pop against the pale blue background. The artist’s use of a simple typeface for Graphis International Poster Design compounds the clean lines and uncluttered nature of this painting.
Condition: Generally very good.
