Stanley Roy Badmin (1906-1989)
Shell Guide to Surrey
Original poster for Shell c. 1960s
Shell commissioned a series of posters to go with their County Guide books, and they commissioned paintings by the leading artists of the day.
Badmin studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal College of Art, London; he became one of the youngest ever associate members of the Royal Watercolour Society at age 26. Well Known for his watercolours of rural Britain it is no wonder Shell employed him to capture the beauty of Surrey. Badmin worked on several commissions for Shell and also went on to work for Transport for London and British Railways.
