Salvage Saves Shipping

Original Vintage Poster
c. 1940

As raw materials had to be imported from abroad across an Atlantic ocean bristling with U-Boat packs, anything that could be reused or recycled – rather than thrown away – reduced the risk to sailors and ships. As such there was a public information campaign during World War II to encourage what we would now describe as environmental behaviour. Energy should be saved, and scrap recycled; Fridays for Future have nothing new to say, but instead a story worth repeating.
