Harold Forster (1895 – 1975)
Keep Mum – She’s Not So Dumb! Careless Talk Costs Lives
Original vintage poster
38 x 26 cm
Printed for H.M. Stationery Office by Greycaine Ltd., Watford and London.
Forster’s famed poster depicts an enemy spy in the form of a louche, glamorous woman. We are reminded that spies are ever and any knowledge about the war must be kept close to one’s chest, to avoid it falling into enemy hands and costing the lives of Allied troops.
Forster was a notable commercial artist who began his career as an apprentice to the renowned graphic designer Fred Taylor. He was a purely commercial artist and did not exhibit in galleries. He is known for his British World War II Home Front poster designs.
Condition: generally very good; folded as issued. Small spot to bottom right margin.
