Haslehust was an English landscape painter and book illustrator, who worked principally in watercolours. Born in Essex he studied at the Slade and a regular exhibitor at many venues including the Royal Academy. A designer of posters for the LNER and LMS railway companies, his art also featured in illustrated magazines such as Illustrated London News.
His greatest work was the illustrations in thirty-six of the volumes of ‘Beautiful England’ travel books published by Blackie and Son Limited. This is the original painting for the illustration “Forth Bridge and Coast of Fife” subsequently published in “The Shores of Fife” by John Geddie (1922) and is painted with usual Haslehust panache, with a joyful choice of colour.
