Charles Paine (1895-1967)

Gorey Pier, Jersey

Watercolour design for a postcard

27 x 39 cm (10.5 x 15.5 in)

Provenance: the family of the artist

This watercolour is sold with a copy of the postcard produced from it and the artist’s original label from the back of the frame.

A series of postcards of Jersey were produced from Paine’s watercolours, and this is one such. Gorey is one of the three main harbours of Jersey, the closest to France, and Paine lived at number 7 Gorey Pier, making this the view from his window.
