Sir Terry Frost R.A. (1915-2003)

Banbury – Heraldic Images I (1965)

Signed lower right “Frost” and dated
Mixed media on card – Wax Crayon, Acrylic and Collage
44 x 54 cm
Provenance: Terry Frost’s doctor in Banbury and by descent

Although remembered mostly for his St Ives association, and also for his Yorkshire period, Frost spent 1963-1974 living in Banbury, in a large house with his larger family. There he became fascinated with the Heraldic Flags in a nearby church, and also the forest of road signs he encountered in Banbury – but had not in St Ives. In this period his work includes many chevrons and roundels, drawing from man-made geometric patterns he found around him.

Framed in hand-finished ‘Nicholson’ butt-jointed frame.
